Which one do you actually need?
Six services is a lot to choose between, and most people arrive here knowing they have a problem rather than knowing which service solves it. Here's the honest routing, including the cases where the answer is the cheapest option on the list.
If you don't yet know what's worth doing
Start with a digital readiness assessment. It's a fixed-scope engagement that maps how your business runs, catalogues the manual work happening in the gaps, and ranks every automation and AI candidate by effort and return — including an explicit list of what we'd leave alone. You own the report and can execute it with anyone. This is the engagement that most often saves clients money, because it prevents a competent project aimed at the wrong problem.
If your systems don't talk to each other
Go to integration and automation. When an ERP, a CRM, and an accounting package each work fine but people are re-keying data between them, the fix isn't AI — it's connecting them properly, with error handling so a failed sync gets noticed in minutes rather than at year-end. This is unglamorous work and frequently the highest-return thing on this page.
If you have a specific AI idea nobody can price
Build a proof of concept. Two to six weeks, success criteria agreed in writing before anything is built, run against your real data rather than a clean sample. A clear “no” after six weeks is a good outcome and far cheaper than discovering the same thing nine months into a build.
If the work is repetitive and document-heavy
That's AI implementation territory, and it's where models genuinely earn their keep: turning unstructured input into structured data. Reading invoices, classifying requests, extracting fields from documents that a person currently reads and retypes.
If no product fits how you work
Custom development — software you own outright, with no per-seat licensing, built around your process rather than forcing your process into someone else's product. We'd usually rather integrate what you have than replace it, so expect us to test that assumption before agreeing to build.
If the problem is direction rather than delivery
A fractional CAIO or CTO. This suits organizations that don't lack engineering capacity but do lack a single accountable person deciding what gets built, what gets bought, and what gets refused — and who is still there next quarter when the decision needs revisiting.
How we sequence work
Assessment before build, and proof of concept before anything expensive. That order exists to keep failure cheap: a bad idea should cost you weeks, not a year. It also means our first recommendation is often smaller than the engagement a client came in asking about, which is a worse sales approach and a better long-term relationship. Several of our longest client relationships started with us talking someone out of their original plan.
